Cammy Mather to step down as Coach
It was my intention to tell the players after the final match of the season of my decision to step down as Coach but a local rag has decided to get the jump on me so apologises if this is second hand!
I have spent some 14 years involve in the club as a player and latterly as a coach. I have tasted success as both and have been honoured to have won every possible silverware on offer in the Scottish Club Rugby and 7's scene.
For some time I have wished to coach at a higher level, and I believe the only way to achieve this is to grow as a coach under the tutelage of a more experienced helmsman. For that reason I feel I must seek new challenges and opportunities if I am to gain this experience. Also my wife and sons would like me to keep some slightly more social working hours!
Myreside will always hold fond memories for me and the fact I got to play with, and against so many world class players on its grass. Too many in fact to name. But you have to mention Gavin and Scott or they get upset! - In fact if it wasn't for Gavin and the late Alan Mcnish I'd probably be an All Black by now! - on a serious note I will always be in debt to the club for the shop window it offered me and the opportunity to play international rugby off the back of our success that we gained as a club.
I'd like to believe that I leave the club in a strong playing position although it is disappointing to have not returned the League Championship to the club during my second period at Myreside, but the National and Super Cup success brought tangible results for the players efforts. Nothing short of what they deserved.
It has been pleasing as a coach to see players move onto professional rugby and gain the recognition that they deserve. To be paid to do something you love is a rare opportunity and is only ever gained by a selected few. so to Brian, Steve, Kyle, Turny, Bernie and JB never under estimate how your effort and attitude are directly linked to your success.
To Simon, Bruce, Stav and Kery thank you for your support on the touchlines and training paddocks although we all look 25, coaching rugby has an ageing effect on you that no cream can ever hide. In fact Bruce had a full head of hair only 4 months ago.
Finally a huge thank you to Morris Duncan, Brian Drinkwater and Mike Crerar, your support and hard work on the Executive have driven the majority of the success that this club has gained in the last 3 years and with the support of Martin Krajewski and other Sponsors we have turned this club around as it looked into the abyss a little over 36 months ago.
Finally, Finally, I want to wish Bruce and Simon and the club future success and warn them that I will always be found lurking on the sidelines on any spare Saturday afternoons in Edinburgh!
