Watsonians lost in the second round of the 125th Mathon Melrose Sevens on Saturday.

The side beat West of Scotland 28-5 in the first round at The Greenyards. West took an early lead, but ‘Sonians led 7-5 at the break thanks to a try by Rohan Steyl converted by Mike Ker.

|
In the second half Gav Brown scored a converted try, as did Ker and Ali Rowe to help the side ease into round two.
|
|
|
|
Ulster proved a much tougher test in the next match, ‘Sonians never really getting going and finding themselves 28-0 down before a late reply from Andrew Skeen.

|
|
Scottish Thistles won the event, beating Leicester Tigers in the final.
