Further to our exchange of e-mails last October, when the tournament had to be postponed till the Spring, I am pleased to announce that the re-arranged date is the afternoon of Sunday 13 April 2008 - the day after the 125th Melrose Sevens.
Just to remind you, as part of Edinburgh Accies 150th anniversary season, we are resurrecting (after a gap of 10 years) the Edinburgh Old Crocks over-35 Charity Tournament, and would like to take this opportunity of inviting your Club to participate.
We will retain the previous format of two round-robin groups of three XV-a-side teams playing 10 minutes each way, with the two group winners contesting the final over 15 minutes each way for the handsome trophy presented by Scottish Brewers. This will ensure that everyone gets to play in at least two matches.
However, due to the construction of our new Clubhouse at Raeburn Place, we will have the use of only one pitch, which means starting at 1.00pm with the final taking place at 4.30pm. In the event that we might also need to play a postponed league match that day, then we have made contingency plans, but which might lead to slight alterations in the timing.
As this has always been a charity event, again being held in aid of the Murrayfield Centenary Fund for Injured Players, we will be asking each participant please to pay a £10 fee, which will include a hot meal (chilli, rice + salad) and a pint of beer, and leaving a useful contribution for the Murrayfield Centenary Fund. Together with £5 from spectators, we hope to raise some £750.
