Unexpected match report from the 2nd XV
Incredibly, the secretive 2nd XV managed to confound the pundits by providing a match report... but not from one of their players. To avoid breaking their vows of silence, the imaginative outfit convinced Stuart "Mini" Gowan to write a report, which he did with his usual gusto:
Despite the Rumours…………
Two games in and already the hopes of a match report for the 2nd XV seem to have been all but given up on. Never fear though - we do have one for this week.

Watsonians 70 - 7 Biggar
Not often will you be told that a 70-7 score line could and should have been more. This was the case on Saturday though, Biggar never really looked like being in this game but despite that it was a relatively watchable spectacle.
Team sheets are unavailable for the match reporter at the time of writing so perhaps Ed can add these for us? (Readers will have the joy of trying to guess from the multitude of nicknames. Ed.)
The game started with an early try for speedy winger David Turnbull who linked up with Robbo well after a good break by the other winger, and the tries never stopped from there. Turny bagged a second with Moussa owning the third. Scrum half Robbie Buchanan converted two out of these three before securing a try of his own from a pick and go at a scrum.
Turny nailed his hat-trick not long after this with a chip and chase - comments were made post game that this tactic may have been over-used by the groundskeeper but you can’t argue with a hat-trick. The big girl then tried to pretend he was injured to avoid buying the jugs of beer for his hat-trick but his bluff was called and he played on.
A typical link up from Bobbie to Bourhill left the big guy clean through with only the fullback to beat, admittedly the fullback was half the size of the backrow playing at 4 today so Bourhill opted to avoid contact and floated a weak pass to Hillsy which was knocked down and cleared, Biggar tried to counter and Gary Scott put in one of the biggest hits that the faithful 2nd XV crowd has ever seen. A fitting end to the half with the score a deserved 31-0.
Watsonains kicked off from the 2nd half and won the ball, a superb pass from Dave Leslie (10) hit Woody in space and the full-back surged towards the line before proving to all watching that he can actually pass a ball and off loaded to Richie Latimer who made a great support run, try for Lats less than 2 minutes into the 2nd half.
Watsonians were on the attack again immediately from kick off but Biggar were determined that it would not go all our way, an intercept in their own 22 and a good support run from the winger who took the ball and out-cantered the chasing runs of Turny and Tweedie - converted and Biggar were on the score sheet 36-7 down.
This was Biggar's only moment in the match where they really looked like scoring and even this lifeline did not seem able to spur them on for the come back, Tweedie got the next try then a quick penalty form Robbie and great link to Lats set up back row Neil for a try - Ref called the final pass forward though so not awarded.
The scoring wasn't over yet however, Moussa got a 2nd for himself then stole the ball after Biggar decided to run a penalty they were awarded on one of the few times they visited our 22, Moussa rightly didn’t back himself for a full length sprint and offloaded but the Biggar defence scrambled well and earned themselves a lineout. Lineout stolen by Watsonians and Robbie B made another good break before passing to Robbo who was in - ref called another forward pass!
Subs were made around now Turny, Gary Scott, Robin Holroyd and Freddie coming off for Gary Dempsey, Phil Mowatt, Mala and Mixu respectively.
Not long into the match Gary D ran the length of the pitch to score an impressive try - Biggar had no match the pace of the fresh legs on the substitute winger, bringing the score up to 53-7.
Robbo looked in again but in a frustrating game for him it was called forward again - by this time his feeling about the refs calls were too much to control and he outright accused him of being gingerist - the ref ignored him! (you make up your mind if that means he was or wasn't!).
Not content to not have scored in such a high scoring game it was the turn of Luke Dirollo next before inevitably Robbie Buchanan scored a second one. Bourhill in typical fashion refusing to be outdone by big bro ensured the score line reached 70-7 with a try of his own before the ref to (much to everyone's relief) blew full time.
