Watsonians Currie-on winning
Readers of watsoniansrugby.com will be delighted to read that ace reporter Gary Heatly has provided this week's match report. Unfortunately, the Ed. cannot take full credit for this week's dubious pun in the title, as his Best Man was on hand to help:
Watsonians 27 Currie 16
Watsonians left it late against Currie on Saturday, but managed to grind out a superb win thanks to two scores in the last two minutes at Myreside.
Trailing 16-13 in the dying moments full-back Andrew Skeen cut a superb angle to take a pass and go under the posts, punching the air with delight as he did so.
He then converted the try before replacement back-row Jonny Pelter, who looks like a great find, sealed victory with a try of his own converted by Skeen.
When the final whistle went the home players were delighted and the victory over last season’s Champions was their third on the spin after an opening day defeat at Hawick, setting up this weekend’s clash with leaders Boroughmuir nicely.
In the early stages ‘Sonians threatened to run away with the match but Currie defended well and the game tightened up.
Indeed, chances were at a premium and after 40 minutes of forward orientated rugby the sides were tied at 6-6, stand-off Mike Ker notching two penalties for the home side and scrum-half Richard Snedden, a teacher at Watson’s, two for Currie.

After the break both teams tried to play a more expansive game and converted tries were scored by flying South African winger Rohan Steyl for Watsonians and ever impressive No.8 Ross Weston for the visitors.
Currie then squeezed into a 16-13 lead when Snedden converted his third penalty of the afternoon and it looked like things might end that way until ‘Sonians late salvo.
Both tries were great team efforts, but credit must go to centre Mala Mialo who grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and made some crucial line breaks in the lead up to the scores.
Full-time - Watsonians 27 Currie 16
Not the prettiest game you will ever see but a great win nonetheless. The league looks like being very tight and the players will need all your support at Meggetland on Saturday so head across Colinton Road and cheer them on.
Man of the match - Kiwi back-row Josh Abraham looks a great acquisition and he was all over the park before being forced off with an injury. Notable mentions must go to prop Kyle Traynor - who is leading by example this season - and Pelter.
