Watsonians started quickly to blow away GHA on Saturday, eventually recording a 27-17 win over the bottom side.
|
|
|
|
The win was the eighth of the league season for Cammy Mather's men and was vitally important given the disappointment the team had felt seven days earlier after losing to Heriot's at Myreside.
|
|
|
|
On Saturday at Braidholm Craig Sorbie replaced Andrew Skeen at full-back while Carl McWilliam, who by your correspondent's reckoning last played for the club in the cup final win over Currie in 2006, made a surprise return on the wing. Ali Rowe lost his ever present record due to fluid on the knee.

In the pack, Willie Lipp replaced injured captain Will Rowley at No.8 and young second-row/back-row Ian Cordell made his first appearance for the first team off the bench.
|

|
|
Australian Scott Stumbles was the hero early on against the team from the west. The scrum-half scored two tries in the first half and big centre Mala Mailo also crossed.
|
|
|
|
Stand-off Mike Ker converted all three and kicked a penalty, meaning that despite giving away a penalty try 'Sonians still had a comfortable 24-7 lead at the break.

In the second half GHA, buoyed by the win against Dundee HSFP the previous week, came back into things. They scored a converted try trough former Ayr stand-off James Noonan with the same man kicking a penalty.

It was too little, too late for the hosts though and Ker's second penalty of the day made sure four points were heading back to Edinburgh.

So, a good away win at a tough venue. This week Ayr, who are on the same points as 'Sonians and sit fifth, come to Myreside. It is sure to be a tough game so get down to the ground and support the team as they look to build on the win over GHA.
