Wat’s On?

This is the official newsletter of Watsonian Football Club, Warriors Mini Rugby Section - for Sunday, 16 May 2010

This Sunday (16/5) we have the end of season BBQ at Myreside. Meet 12.45 for 1.00

Key points are:-
• All players/coaches/parents to wear trainers – no boots on the pitches please
• Games played by (i) year group and (ii) in teams – either per regular squads or mix it all up for fun
• Catering has been organised for players, coaches and first aiders - burgers in seeded roll, vegi burgers and hot dogs. Diluting juice
• Tab for coaches and first aiders’ beer/cider behind the bar
• BBQ and drinks vouchers will be distributed by lead coaches. Pre-paid BBQ is for players, coaches and first aiders. No voucher, no burger! The usual Myreside stall will be available for purchases and some BBQ food can be bought on the day
• BBQ staggered as follows – P3 - 2.20, P4 - 2.30, P5 - 2.40, P6 and P7 - 2.50. Other timings: usual 12.45 for 1.00 meet. Games until BBQ time. Finished by 4.00 at latest. NB these are the times at which each year group should be at the Pavilion for the BBQ – not starting to leave the pitches - otherwise it will be a very long queue! Coaches, please help in this respect
• Coaches: If it’s dry and we are eating in front of the Pavilion then suggest simplest to put the kit away at the end rather than squeeze past the BBQ unit. “Health and safety”.

Wet Weather
Plan B is that there is no Plan B! It’s a high stakes game. The food won’t keep. This is a Scottish BBQ and they are usually wet at some stage!
We will eat inside the Pavilion if it’s wet. If needs be, we’ll truncate the event by delaying the start until 1.30 and keeping the games short and sweet. The Phoneline will operate and Gordon (who is responsible for organising the BBQ) will advise any change to the start time that way and by email. Gordon will put the message on at 11 a.m.
In case we are inside, Gordon has purchased some classic rugby DVDs to entertain the children featuring greatest tries from the Rugby World Cup and other magic moments. Should be inspiring!

Please check before setting out.

Duty First Aider at Myreside on 16/5: Fiona Taylor
Thanks, Fiona. If you can’t make it then onus on you to tee-up a replacement from the rota.

Childcare Responsibility
The club cannot take responsibility for the care of your child during mini rugby sessions (or BBQs!) and so each player must have a “nominated carer” present at all sessions, both home and away.

Summer Touch Rugby
This is on Tuesday Nights starting after the BBQ on Tuesday, 18 May. Meet at the Pavilion at 6 p.m. Parents encouraged to join in too.
Gordon has promised to send one of his infamous “survey monkeys” asking interested players and parents to register for summer touch. Nothing onerous. Intended to address the concern that in previous years it has been difficult to know whether touch rugby is on (or not) and so difficult to commit.
If you are interested, then the survey monkey will ask you to log an email address and mobile number for each playing child/parent. Armed with that info, I am reliably informed that Gordon can set-up a “teamer website” which will be used each week to confirm playing numbers. Dead easy, e.g. all you’ll need to do if you want to play is text “y” back to the mobile alert for that week’s game. All participants will have access to the website to check numbers for that week.
If we don’t have critical mass (minimum of 5-a-side) or the weather is poor then you’ll receive a cancellation notice from the teamer website so you know the score.
The focus is firmly on fun and it’s a good chance for the children to work on their passing on a sunny summer evening.

NOTE: NO FIRST AIDER WILL BE PRESENT AT SUMMER TOUCH RUGBY!

Date for your diary :
2010 / 2011 Season kicks-of on Sunday, 29 August 2010.
Term begins on Thursday, 26 August. We would like to field teams at each year group from P3 through to and including P7. We hope to see as many of the current P5 and P6 back as possible. The schools/clubs we play look for opposition at all age groups from P3 to P7 so we need to try and match that if we can. Your support is much appreciated.

STOP PRESS - SERIOUS COSIDERATION IS BEING GIVEN TO INTRODUCING U13/U14 YOUTH RUGBY NEXT SEASON - STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS!

Have a great summer!
David Harris
Head of Youth Rugby
